The first female chief of the Central Environmental Unit

The Mossos d’Esquadra Central Environmental Department (ACME) investigates crimes against the environment, providing services throughout Catalonia. It deals with crimes against natural resources and the environment, such as water pollution, air pollution and waste transport. It also investigates crimes related to protected species, protected natural areas and animal abuse.

In 2006, Sergeant Gemma Ribera (10th cohort) became the first woman to head up what was then the Central Environmental Unit.

This unit was converted into a department in 2010, at which point Sergeant Ribera became assistant department chief, a position she still holds today. Her years of work have made her a leader in this field.
