Alícia Moriana was the second women to achieve the rank of commissioner in the Mossos d’Esquadra. She joined the force in 1996 (10th cohort) and stands out as being the first woman to rise directly from the rank of sub-inspector to intendant.

In April 2017 she was promoted to commissioner and appointed director of the Police School of Catalonia, making her the first women to occupy this post. She later went on to hold other high-ranking positions in the force before retaking her role as director of the Police School in December 2020, where she remains today.

The Barcelona terrorist attacks

On 17 and 18 August 2017, Catalonia was the target of a series of terrorist attacks claimed by the Islamic State. During these tragic days in Catalonia’s history, the men and women of the Mossos d’Esquadra once again demonstrated their commitment and professionalism.
