Women join the Protection Command

The Protection Command is responsible for the security and protection of people who, due to their public duties, are exposed to greater risk on a day-to-day basis.

During the 1995 municipal elections, a woman was assigned to the personal security detail of Miquel Roca i Junyent, who was running for mayor of Barcelona. This was the first protection service carried out by a woman.

Women gradually joined the counter-surveillance service of the President of the Government of Catalonia, first on an intermittent basis and then on a permanent basis. The first women to join the Protection Command in 1996 were Rosa Escofet and Esther Alarcón.
